Through that time, I've gained a solid understanding of what it means to be an effective mentor. I believe that knowing the information and having the ability to teach the information are two different things. I've never been the fastest learner, but have always been proud of my ability to retain information. I've been through the common pitfalls and want to help. When I tutor, I use techniques that get directly to the heart of the information. We build from the ground up. I will never throw formulas on a sheet of paper without explanation, and I reason from first basis principles. The major point is for student to understand where the information comes from and at the end of each lesson, have the ability to teach that information to me. I primarily tutor ACT/SAT prep, Math to Calculus III, physics, and biology. I choose to teach because I want to make a difference and be a positive influence. I've learned so much from my students and this is one of those things in life where to me, a hour feels like 10 minutes. The time flies.
